Preparing the scans

A dental case needs two intraoral scans: the upper arch and the lower arch of the same patient, taken at the same visit.

File formats

STL, PLY or OBJ, one file per arch. Add each to its slot, upper or lower.

Export both arches in the bite

Export the two arches together from the scanner software, in the bite position, so the files keep the scanner's shared coordinates. The check compares the two files: when the arches are more than 5 mm apart, or overlap in a way that shows they were exported separately, the dental case cannot be ordered until they are exported again in the bite.

Export at full resolution

A scan under 20,000 triangles looks reduced and is flagged. Export the full-resolution mesh.

What the check looks for

Your browser reads each file as you add it and reports what it finds. The files are not sent anywhere for this.

  • Units: a scan in metres, centimetres or inches is detected and rescaled to millimetres.
  • Holes up to 5 mm, which Fix all fills.
  • Larger holes, which are not filled: rescan, or continue with the warning.
  • Edges shared by more than two triangles, which Fix all removes.
  • Loose fragments, where Fix all keeps the largest piece.
  • Zero-area triangles, which Fix all merges away.
  • Triangles facing the wrong way, which are reported.

After Fix all the report shows what remains. The repaired file is what is uploaded, under the arch's name.
